Bruceki
Pronounced "Bruce+key"
Nitro Cream Ale, ABV: 4.0%
Tasty Notes
The first pour is part of the experience.
Bruceki initially hits the glass almost milky white as a dense cascade of tiny nitrogen bubbles rolls through the beer. The cascade continues for what feels like forever, slowly revealing brilliant, crystal clear pale straw underneath. Once settled, a perfect finger of dense, creamy white nitro foam sits on top.
The aroma is intentionally subtle and inviting. Soft corn and cereal grain come first, layered with oats, fresh bread, gentle malt sweetness, and a faint touch of honey. Classic PNW hops sit naturally alongside the grain, adding a soft herbal and lightly floral lift without pushing themselves to the front.
On the palate, the flavor follows the aroma closely. Corn and cereal grain lead into soft oats and bready malt, with a light suggestion of honey adding just enough roundness.
The hops are restrained, but they are absolutely not an afterthought. A kiss of classic PNW hop character brings a gentle brightness and just enough smooth bitterness to balance the malt, sharpen the finish, and pull the entire beer together. Nothing feels overly bitter or overtly hoppy. It is simply the right amount for this beer.
Then there’s the texture.
As you’d hope from a great nitro beer, Bruceki is ridiculously smooth. Dense, creamy, and almost pillow like across the palate without actually being heavy. The nitro creates an impression of richness while the beer itself remains light, bone dry, clean, and incredibly refreshing.
That dry finish allows the bitterness to linger softly for a moment, along with hints of grain and PNW hops, before disappearing and asking for another sip.
Bruceki is the kind of beer you might not realize you need until someone puts a pint in front of you. It doesn’t punch you in the face with aroma, flavor, or bitterness, and it isn’t trying to.
The beauty of the beer is in the balance.
The grain has a purpose. The hops have a purpose. The nitro has a purpose. Every element is present in exactly the amount it needs to be.
Restraint, experience, and attention to detail are the point.
The Story Behind Bruceki
Bruce started his brewing career roughly 30 years ago in Bend. The first iteration of this cream ale was the first recipe he wrote and brewed professionally.
When he moved on to the next chapter of his brewing career, he was given permission to take the beer with him and brew it again.
Years later, when we started talking about what beers we wanted to make to help tell the story of who we are as a brewery, this was one of the first beers that kept coming up.
It only seemed appropriate that this version carry his name. Light, creamy, bone dry, gently bitter, wonderfully balanced, and 100% Bruce.
